Isaiah 29:16 • Ephesians 2:10
I stepped onto the stage, lights too bright to see A sweeping play in motion, long before me Woke up exhausted, trying to write my own lines Directing every scene, ignoring all the signs Trying to build a legacy, a name that I could claim Just a frantic actor, whispering my own name Striving for approval, caught in endless strife Searching for applause, the meaning of my life
But I'm not the playwright, not the one who holds the pen You are the Author, time and time again Your 'poiema', Your masterpiece, designed for grace No more performing, just finding my true place In the role You've written, dignity secured and free A joyful discovery, You've made a way for me
Like clay trying to tell the potter how to spin An upside-down world, where chaos rushed within Questioning the Maker, His wisdom, His design Exhausted from this struggle, trying to make it mine But You prepared the good works, long before my start Not a ladder to climb, but pathways of the heart Liberated from the hustling, from the constant chase Resting in Your purpose, in Your perfect space
Now the chains are broken, performance left behind A willing, joyful spirit, new purpose I can find Breathing life into the character You've drawn Co-creating with the Director, from dusk 'til dawn My life a living testimony, to show Your wisdom bright To the cosmos watching, shining Your pure light
'Cause I'm not the playwright, not the one who holds the pen You are the Author, time and time again Your 'poiema', Your masterpiece, designed for grace No more performing, just finding my true place In the role You've written, dignity secured and free A joyful discovery, You've made a way for me
Your masterpiece... unfolding gracefully Your design for me... eternally Just playing my part... finally free Oh, finally free... in Your design for me
