Outstretched Hands

Psalms 140:12 • James 2:15-16

Rushing through the market square, another voice calls out my name A fleeting glance, a hurried prayer, try to avoid the gaze of shame "Go in peace, stay warm, be fed," my hollow words echo in air While a heart still hungers, a spirit dread, and I walk on, pretending not to care

But the Lord upholds the needy's plea, His justice for the poor is sure And He asks of me, to truly see, beyond the broken, to endure Not just a wish, but outstretched hand, a human touch, a present grace To truly live in this promised land, and find joy in that sacred space

We wonder why the pain remains, why poverty holds fast its sway But a powerful God calls us by name, to be His hands, right here, today Not waiting for a sudden surge, of feeling good before we give But choosing grace, a selfless urge, a different way for us to live

To pause and look them in the eye, acknowledge soul, not just the plight To speak a word, a gentle "hi," and bring a glimpse of heaven's light And watch that quiet joy unfurl, a muscle grown, a spirit free Rewiring heart, transforming world, from grudging duty to empathy

Oh, the Lord upholds the needy's plea, His justice for the poor is sure And He asks of me, to truly see, beyond the broken, to endure Not just a wish, but outstretched hand, a human touch, a present grace To truly live in this promised land, and find joy in that sacred space

So let my spirit be undone, interrupted, open wide For every daughter, every son, with nothing left for them to hide In giving truth, in giving grace, His nature shines, His love complete Finding joy in every face, where brokenness and mercy meet.
