I, the LORD, have called you for a righteous purpose, and I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and appoint you to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations. — Isaiah 42:6
While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” — Matthew 17:5

Summary: My beloved brethren, the Father Himself unveiled our King, declaring Him His beloved Son and delighting in His humble, suffering path as the Servant. We are commanded to listen to Him, for all saving truth flows from His lips, and to reflect His dazzling light. Our calling is to dispel the gloom with His gentle justice and restorative compassion, sharing His truth and walking in the Father's delight.
My beloved brethren, what a glorious panorama unfolds before our spiritual eyes when we ascend, in humble contemplation, to that sacred Mount of Transfiguration! Picture it, if you can: our blessed Lord, not merely shining with borrowed light, but emanating the very uncreated glory of His Godhead, His raiment dazzling white as the light itself! Here, the ancient whispers of Isaiah's Servant find their thunderous, undeniable echo. The prophet spoke of one in whom God's soul delighted, a gentle Light for the nations, not a hammer to break, but a hand to nurse the bruised reed and fan the smoking flax.
And lo, on that mountain peak, the Father Himself, with a voice that shook the very heavens, declared, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him!" Oh, mark these words, dear friends! "My beloved Son" speaks of His eternal royalty, His rightful throne. Yet, the divine pleasure is rooted in the humble, suffering path of the Servant, the very image Isaiah painted! Here is the profound, beautiful paradox of our King: His ultimate power is revealed not in worldly might, but in gentle service, in sacrificial love, in the shedding of His own precious blood.
And then, the command, ringing clear above Lawgiver and Prophet: "Listen to Him!" Moses and Elijah, grand as they were, faded, leaving only Jesus. All authority, all wisdom, all saving truth, now flows from His blessed lips. We are not to pick and choose, but to bend our knees and incline our hearts, drinking deeply from the wellspring of His perfect Word.
What then, is our calling, we who bear His name? To listen to Him, yes, but also to reflect His dazzling light! As He was the "light for the nations," so are we, His redeemed, called to dispel the gloom of this fallen world with His radiant truth. Let us not hide our lamp under a bushel, but shine forth His gentle justice, His restorative compassion, sharing the saving knowledge of our Servant-King with every lost soul. And take heart, saints, for in embracing this path of humble service, even through suffering, we walk in the Father's delight, knowing our labour is never in vain, but a sure path to eternal glory!
